New York has no shortage of tiny windows dispensing coffee, pizza and the occasional very expensive scoop of gelato. But later this month, we’re getting something far more Italian: an actual wine window (or, technically, a beer window inspired by one).

Peroni Nastro Azzurro is bringing Italy’s centuries-old buchette del vino tradition stateside with Peroni Portals, a new pop-up series kicking off on July 24. The flagship event will turn The Parkgate in the West Village into an aperitivo-inspired walk-up window where guests can grab an ice-cold Peroni and focaccia created by Giada De Laurentiis.

If you’ve spent any time wandering around Florence, you may have spotted the tiny arched openings built into the walls of centuries-old palazzi. These buchette del vino (“little wine holes”) were historically used to sell wine directly to customers and, in recent years, some have returned to service, dispensing everything from glasses of vino to gelato.

Now New Yorkers are getting our own version, courtesy of Peroni. The July 24 event will serve Italian beer via a walk-up portal alongside pane di Peroni, an exclusive focaccia recipe from De Laurentiis that uses a full bottle of room-temperature Peroni in the dough. The bread is finished with olive oil and flaky sea salt and baked until golden and crisp.

“One of the things I love most about partnering with Peroni is our shared passion for celebrating the everyday moments that make Italian culture so special,” De Laurentiis said. “Inspired by Italy's famous wine windows, it gives people a chance to slow down, raise a Peroni with friends and experience a little bit of Italy closer to home.”

Beyond the beer and focaccia, guests can expect Peroni merch and an immersive experience inspired by Italian aperitivo culture. Admission is first-come, first-served while supplies last and the event is limited to guests 21 and older.

The New York event is just the beginning: Peroni Portals will pop up at bars in additional U.S. cities throughout the summer. But frankly, a tiny West Village window handing us beer and Giada-approved focaccia feels like a pretty solid argument for staying put.
