Porto's best Airbnbs

1. The downtown studio with the garden view

Neighbourhood: Cedofeita

Nearby: The elevated gardens of Crystal Palace and Casa Tait are only a 10-minute walk away.

In an 1896-built home, with 1936-preserved interiors (including an impressive spiral, wooden staircase), this studio suite is attached to what is essentially, a proper B&B - minus the breakfast. Run by warm hosts Paolo and Caroline, the suite is small, charming and sun-lit, with a private bathroom, small desk, a dining table and a romantic balcony with a view. There's also a small kitchenette with a mini-fridge, microwave and tiny induction hob, should you need them, but you're a 15 minute walk from Porto's lively art district filled with fab restaurants. Dine out, instead, or bring back some takeaway to feast on the balcony. Dinner with a view.

Rooms: 1 bed, 1 bath. Sleeps 2.

Parking status: No on-site parking, but a car park is a 10-minute walk away.

Price: From €146 per night. Two-night minimum.

2. The Green Cottage by the Parque da Cidade

Neighbourhood: Vilarinha

Nearby: Entry to Parque da Cidade (City Park) is a five-minute walk, and both, Foz and Matosinhos beaches, are a literal walk-in-the-park away (or a 10-minute drive).

Over in west Porto's Vilarinha neighbourhood, tropical florals and foliage surrounds the lush Green Cottage. It's a breath of fresh air, compared to the crowded corners of downtown Porto, and it comes with a queen bed, a sofa bed for two, a small (but well eqipt) bathroom and a long wooden balcony with views of the property's garden. The cottage is set in the backyard of a main property, where the hosts live and are available should you need anything, and there's even a barbecue for those glorious sunny days.

Time Out tip: The bus stops just across the street from the flat should get you to central Porto in about 30 minutes.

Rooms: 2 beds, 1 bath. Sleeps 4.

Parking status: Ask about on-site parking, as it's sometimes available. If not, there's plenty of street parking right outside the door.

Price: From €86 per night. Two-night minimum.
