Anniversaries are meant to be celebrated with gusto, and Singapore knows just how to party when it comes to National Day. Observed on August 9, the yearly affair marks Singapore’s independence from Malaysia. The city dresses for the occasion with flags lining the buildings, patriotic songs pervading the airwaves, people kitted out in red and white, and of course, the National Day Parade (NDP).

Here’s the NDP in a nutshell: impressive aerial displays, military parades, and multicultural performances – all wrapped up with stunning fireworks. What’s more: this year's parade returns to the historic National Stadium after a decade.

Whether you're planning to pop the poppers outdoors or join in the fun from home, here's everything you need to know about NDP2026.

All you need to know about NDP2026

Theme

In the spirit of Singapore's 61st birthday celebration, this year's theme ‘Majulah Singapura, Go Beyond’ is a call for us all to celebrate the Singapore spirit while looking ahead with our aspirations and showing care for the community. Singapore's ideals of democracy, peace, progress, justice, and equality hold true – further captured in the five stars of the NDP logo. The ‘1’ in the logo has been designed to look like an arrow, to reflect our strive for progress and excellence.

A sucker for National Day theme songs? This year marks the first NDP album featuring three songs so far. There’s ‘Giants’, a pop anthem written by weish and performed by Iman Fandi; ‘Sparkle’, a high-energy singalong anthem co-written by Gareth Fernandez, Dru Chen, Bang Wenfu & Sikai Goh, performed by Gareth Fernandez and Dru Chen; and You’ll Be Okay’,  an electro-pop anthem, co-written by Jasmine Sokko and Josh Wei, performed by Jasmine Sokko

Watch the music videos here.

This year also marks the first NDP microdrama series, “Heartbeats”, a six-episode series starring Iman Fandi and Yung Raja.

Parade and Ceremony

NDP 2026 is segmented into seven sections. The pre-parade opens with a short film that follows Singaporeans from all walks of life. This is followed by an athlete flag relay with participation by Olympic kite-sailing medallist Max Maeder and seven-time Paralympic gold medallist Yip Pin Xiu.

Then it's all about military pride. This parade will consist of 32 contingents – 26 are civilian contingents, making it the largest civilian participation ever. In line with this year’s theme, the parade will come together to form the words ‘SG GO BEYOND’.

For the first time, you’ll also get to witness the presidential gun salute and state flag flypast at the Kallang Basin, giving spectators a closer view outside the National Stadium. Other highlights include the Guard of Honour, combined military band and marchpast.

NDP 2026 Show

We jump into the show proper in the next five acts. Each act is inspired by the theme ‘Go Beyond’  –  a capsule of the Singapore story.

This is the first time that NDP will return to the National Stadium since 2016, so expect lots of synchronised lights, aerial performances, indoor drone shows, and special effects.

Also, look out for local artistes like Iman Fandi, Jasmine Sokko, Gareth Fernandez, Dru Chen and The People’s Choir.

Fringe Activities

Although there will be no heartland celebrations this year, you and your family can still soak up the National Day spirit with these activities.

Until August 10, embark on an islandwide Majulah treasure hunt, with over 61 locations. Win prizes like August mascot plushies, as well as Whatsapp and Telegram stickers. From August 3 to 10, the first 100 to uncover the last location will receive a complete set of eight August plushies.

There are also plenty of free National Day community celebrations to look forward to. Some events include the Istana Open House on July 26. From July 25 to August 9, the SportSG sports carnival will also be happening, with sports activities for all ages and abilities. More details on this event can be found here

Additionally, head to The Kallang, along the Stadium Riverside Walk from July 25 to August 9, to catch fireworks and live performances.

Screenings

If you can't watch the National Day Parade at the National Stadium itself, then catch all the action, song and dance on your telly and social media platforms. The show will be broadcast live on screens islandwide, showcasing the parade in full HD glory. Head to NDPeeps on Facebook and YouTube, as well as mewatch and Mediacorp broadcast channels to tune in.

NDP fun packs

This year, SG Enable worked with 36 artists, including 21 students from special needs schools, nine social service agencies and two early intervention centres to design six artworks for the NDP fun packs. Each unique piece represents the artists' interpretation of this year’s NDP theme and their wishes for Singapore’s birthday.

Road closures

On National Day, do remember to check the road closure advisory on ndp.gov.sg/advisories for information about streets to avoid while commuting.

As can be expected, roads around the National Stadium, such as Stadium Drive, Mountbatten Road and Nicoll Highway, will be affected by the parade proceedings, so take careful note if you're in the area to avoid any inconvenience.
