Satisfy your sweet tooth this summer with these gorgeous and refreshing desserts and drinks

One of the many joys of summer is indulging in seasonal treats, from refreshing kakigori and luscious ice cream to innovative cocktails. It’s also the perfect time to enjoy Japan’s exceptional fruit, with dessert and pastry shops across the country serving up sweets showcasing the best produce of the season, including peaches, melons, mangoes, grapes, citrus and more.
If you’re looking for the ultimate summer treat, don’t miss these luxurious seasonal desserts and drinks, available for a limited time only. Bon appétit!
Patisserie Asako Iwayanagi is one of Tokyo’s most celebrated pastry shops, earning owner-chef Asako Iwayanagi a place on the city’s must-visit dessert map thanks to her heavenly parfaits that look more like works of art than edible treats. This summer, the pastry shop has teamed up with Trunk Kitchen at Trunk Hotel Cat Street for the seasonal Parfait Bijou® Pêche (¥5,000), available at the restaurant from July 18 to August 31.
This luxurious parfait showcases seasonal peaches, complemented by gelato made with rare Tsuyuhikari green tea from Shizuoka prefecture, coconut meringue, elderflower jelly streusel, hojicha crèmeux, hibiscus agar jelly, zunda bean paste, and marinated peaches with shiso and myoga. The parfait comes with a tea pairing, or you can opt for an alcoholic pairing for an additional ¥800. A smaller version of the parfait is also available as part of Trunk Kitchen’s special lunch course (¥8,900).
Looking for the most photogenic shaved ice in Tokyo? We've found it. Sweets Design Studio Mapril in Nishi-Ogikubo has brought back its gorgeous summer flower kakigori, featuring five beautiful variations. Each creation is inspired by a classic dessert such as strawberry shortcake or matcha Basque cheesecake, reimagined as elaborate shaved ice topped with delicate flowers crafted from bean paste.
This year’s line-up includes a strawberry shortcake kakigori (¥2,000), a refreshing chocolate mint flavour (¥1,800), a matcha Basque cheesecake topped with delicate pink cherry blossoms, a light and refreshing fruit smoothie (¥1,800), and a caramel banana creation (¥1,800) adorned with bright yellow sunflowers. These special kakgori will be available until August 30.
Prefer to cool down with a cocktail in hand? Don’t miss the unique strawberry shaved ice daiquiri (¥4,100) at Virtù at Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo at Otemachi. This playful twist on the classic daiquiri is made to order with hand-shaved, fluffy kakigori infused with strawberry flavour. The rum-forward cocktail is topped with more of the fresh berries, making it the perfect way to beat the summer heat. The drink is available until August 31.
While matcha has quickly become everyone’s favourite way to caffeinate, most cafés in Tokyo stop at the classic matcha latte. If you’re looking for a tropical twist on the green tea favourite, head to So Tarte in Omotesando, where Issa Matcha is hosting a pop-up until July 31. Alongside the classic matcha latte, the limited-time menu features creative drinks such as the watermelon matcha (¥1,180) and the standout mango coconut matcha latte (¥1,220). This refreshingly indulgent drink combines chunks of fresh mango with oat milk, agave and Issa Matcha’s ceremonial-grade matcha, made from tea leaves sourced from Uji and Shizuoka.
